You will coordinate with line crews in everyday situations and in major storms, utilizing your resources and information so that service is restored in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
The individual in this position will also address and respond to customer calls after hours, monitor and respond to system and facility alarms, ensuring power system reliability and performance using the tools available in the Control Center such as SCADA, OMS, IVR, GIS and various maps and diagrams.
There are 7 people in this role and once trained and up to speed you will work a rotating 13-hour 20 min shift schedule that will be given to you one year in advance.
During the days there are 2-3 people on duty, but at night time and weekends, there is only one. For up to the first 6 months you will be in training (for some it is only 3-4 months) on day shift, working mostly 40-hour weeks.
Once your initial training is complete you become an Assistant System Operator and will get a bump in pay of over $4/hour. As an assistant you will never be asked to work alone and will receive OJT and some overtime.
Base $30.35/hour for training, after training up to 6 months bump $35/hour as Assistant, 6 months later bump to $46.68/hour + overtime + up to 10% bonus (last few years 6-7%) in the System Operator role. Full benefits, 401k company contribution 7% automatically and then matches up to 3% of what you put in.
This is a union position.
The hiring process will be a phone screen, followed by Cognitive testing (less than 1-hour test), then either an on-site interview or Skype interview depending on your location.
