Maintenance Manager

Under the direction of the President, the Maintenance Manager has overall responsibility of managing, directing and coordinating maintenance operations. The responsibility includes the maintenance work process, mechanical integrity, electrical integrity, equipment reliability improvement and equipment repair. The principle objective is to provide an organized and efficient maintenance service to maximize the reliability of production process equipment.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Create a safe work environment. Enforce plant safety policies. Maintain high standards of safety in equipment installations and maintenance. Ensure good safety practices and procedures, 5S, and housekeeping standards and practices for all employees. Act as a model for safety. Lead department safety team initiatives.

Implement and manage a sound maintenance work process that ensures efficient utilization of personnel and equipment.

Leverage existing computerized maintenance management program (SAP) to improve work processes and to develop the metrics needed to maximize plant reliability and realize cost efficiency. Provide prompt and efficient repair service based on plant priorities as required, maintaining a high level of equipment reliability and uptime.

Direct the development, planning, and execution of an effective preventive and predictive maintenance program for mechanical and electrical equipment to assure minimal unscheduled down time.

Manage mechanical integrity program to ensure compliance with RMP and PSM regulations.

Develop and continuously upgrade meaningful performance measurements for the maintenance unit which support the plant's goals.

Maintain a competent and trained work force, supplementing skills with appropriate training programs.

Interact with Production to ensure timely and accurate scheduling, control and reporting of maintenance activities.

Be responsive and improve maintenance systems as appropriate based on new initiatives and based on the voice of the customer.

Evaluate on a continuing basis maintenance methods and costs. Devise a systematic approach to identify problem areas and focus resources to improve reliability and improve costs.

Establish and maintain an effective program to provide written instructions and procedures to be followed in the maintenance of equipment (Maintenance SOPs).

Analyze maintenance costs leading to recommendations for major overhauls or replacement of plant equipment. Have an effective cross-functional equipment management process in place.

Prepare the maintenance goals and plans for the annual budget and for long range plans. Analyze maintenance operating costs and prepare forecasts of expenses for maintenance. Plan, organize and integrate the maintenance activities to be carried out during plant shutdowns.

Support and understand the Plant Lean Sigma efforts for continuous improvement of processes and equipment reliability.

Maintain good communications with production, services, the lab, and the mine to ensure all departments are working together to meet a common goal.

Acquire needed site spare parts in coordination with warehouse and in accordance with policy. Support warehouse cost optimization activities including the identification and removal of obsolete or expired parts and equipment.

Assist with the development of long term strategic maintenance plans for capital and expensed equipment repairs.

Assist with planning and preparations for maintenance work to occur during scheduled outages.

Support and lead electrical, mechanical, and automation projects.

Aggressively and objectively plan corrective maintenance for unsafe conditions identified during safety audits.

Promote positive employee relations.

Diligently strive towards zero accidents.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Ensure accountability throughout the organization. Coach and empower people to be innovative thinkers; walk the shop floor and job sites rout.
